Beier Safety Footwear, the family run safety shoe manufacturer, has added eight new shoes to their Sisi range. The KZN manufacturing powerhouse focused their efforts on providing women with a fit for purpose safety shoe, modelled and manufactured specifically for the unique characteristics of the female foot.

With an increasing number of women entering areas that were once the preserve of men, protecting the female foot has not only become a growing commodity, but a necessary one to perfect. Female safety shoes are typically modelled on a male foot resulting in an unnecessarily, uncomfortable work shoe for many women. “We invested in really understanding the female foot, which is on average 1 inch shorter and narrower than a man’s. The arch, lateral side and the ball of the foot are very different too” said Beier Safety Footwear’s Marketing Manager, Allan Prinsloo.

To perfect the shoe, Beier Safety Footwear partnered with Italian shoe designer Luca Bachet who draws inspiration from the fashionable city of Milan he calls home. The new design includes a new sole shape, lighter shoe weight, specific tread pattern and ankle support. “We also understand a woman’s psychological need to retain her sense of femininity. Often the shoes are the first things kicked off when they walk out the door. The new tailoring answers the need for a more feminine shoe” said Bachet.

The range was recently launched at the Beier Safety Footwear end-of-year event on Thursday 14 November, and hosted by the glamorous Minnie Dlamini. The evening celebrated the success women have achieved in areas once seen as the preserve of men. “We wanted to generate awareness for this sector of the workforce and what they are achieving. Many women will be encouraged to hear these success stories” said Prinsloo.

Beier Safety Footwear’s commitment to the progression of females in industry is supported by a bursary programme planned for 2014 as well as active involvement in female focused networking events.

The new Sisi range can be bought through appointed safety footwear distributors.
